Garage Door Tune-Up & Maintenance
A once-a-year check keeps a garage door quiet, balanced and safe — and catches a tired spring or fraying cable before it strands your car.
- $10 off a tune-up
- About an hour
- Before winter is best
What our tune-up includes
- Balance test — opener disconnected, door lifted by hand to see if the springs still carry its weight.
- Springs and cables — looked over for rust, gaps, fraying and wear at the bottom brackets.
- Rollers, hinges and bearings — checked for wear and play; moving parts lubricated.
- Tracks and brackets — alignment and loose fasteners tightened.
- Weather seal — bottom seal and side stops checked for gaps and cracks.
- Opener — force and travel settings, chain or belt tension, remotes.
- Safety — photo-eye sensors and the auto-reverse test.
You get a written list
We tell you what’s in good shape and what isn’t, and give you a price for anything that needs fixing. Nothing is replaced without your OK.
Why before winter
Cold weather stiffens grease, shrinks rubber seals and puts the most stress on springs. A door that is slightly out of balance in October can stop working on the first icy morning. A tune-up in the fall gives us time to fix it on your schedule, not in an emergency.
What you can do between visits
- Look at the springs and cables once a month — don’t touch them.
- Test the auto-reverse with a roll of paper towels on the floor.
- Keep the sensor lenses clean.
- Clear leaves and ice from the bottom seal.
- Listen: new noises usually mean something has started to wear.
Tune-up questions
Updated October 2026. Something else? Call (516) 493-4680 and tell us what the door is doing.
Should I use WD-40 on my garage door?
Not as a lubricant. Use a garage-door or silicone-based lubricant on hinges, roller bearings and springs; don’t grease the inside of the tracks.
How do I test my garage door’s safety reverse?
Lay a roll of paper towels flat in the door’s path and close the door with the opener. It should touch the roll and reverse. If it doesn’t, stop using the opener and call us.
Can a tune-up make my garage door quieter?
Often, yes — lubrication, tightening and adjusting the opener help. If the rollers are worn steel ones, swapping to nylon rollers makes the biggest difference.
